Nothing But Nets Chosen

I’ve just realized that although I’ve written several posts alluding to this, I haven’t stated it directly: the Outreach (Missions) Committee chose the Nothing But Nets campaign for an international mission project. This choice dovetails nicely with the focus of the Change the World project: “Build community locally. Fight malaria globally.” As stated previously, the premiss of Nothing But Nets is simple: every year there are about 250 million cases of Malaria in the world resulting in 880,000 deaths. Every thirty seconds a child in Africa dies of malaria. One of the best ways to prevent the spread of Malaria is the use of insecticide treated bed nets. The Nothing But Nets Campaign can provide a net for a family of four for $10. Obviously, there’s not a malaria problem in Coffeyville, so we’ll be receiving a special offering for this project in worship on April 18, 2010.
