Nothing But Nets

The Outreach Committee is looking for an international mission project and is considering the Nothing But Nets Campaign. The United Methodist Church, along with the NBA (yes, the National Basketball Association), Sports Illustrated, and the United Nations Foundation, is a founding partner of this program. The premiss is simple: every year there are about 250 million cases of Malaria in the world resulting in 880,000 deaths. Every thirty seconds a child in Africa dies of malaria. One of the best ways to prevent the spread of Malaria is the use of insecticide treated bed nets. The Nothing But Nets Campaign can provide a net for a family of four for $10. The Outreach Committee is currently praying for God’s guidance as to whether or not this is the issue and the campaign that we should focus on. Another option would be to participate in the United Methodist Church’s “Imagine No Malaria” campaign which tries to pick up where nothing but nets leaves off.

If you’re moved to make a contribution without waiting for the Outreach Committee simply write “Nothing But Nets” or “Advance 982015” on a check of offering envelope and put in the offering plate on Sunday or send it to the church office. You can also donate online.
