One of my clergy colleagues shared this experience on Facebook:
“It happened again. . . . I quoted from the Beatitudes and someone accused me of being a liberal, “woke” socialist. When I replied that I was only quoting Jesus. The other person didn’t believe me until I showed it to them in a Bible. They claimed I was using one of those ungodly rewritten Bibles they’ve been publishing, so I showed them the exact words in the King James Bible. They replied, ‘Jesus wouldn’t have said that today.’ Many church leaders will answer for the lies they preach . . . “
This particular clergy person is in no way a “liberal, woke socialist.” They’re simply someone attempting to be faithful to the gospel. I’m quite confident Jesus would still proclaim the beatitudes today. I’m thankful to do church with so many people who regularly proclaim the red letters of the Bible (the words that Jesus spoke).
