Kitchen Restore has moved into the “White House” behind the church, the former home of the Fit Closet. The following description of their work is from Carol Shanklin:
Kitchen Restore is a community donation program of the Farm and Food Council of Riley County and the City of Manhattan. Volunteers collect donations of gently-used or new kitchenware. These items are then sorted and packed in starter kits with basic kitchen items needed to cook and serve meals. Kitchen Restore partners with more than 16 community agencies that are responsible for screening individuals/families to assess their eligibility to receive a kit. Kits are then delivered to the agency requesting the kit. The partner agency then assures the kit is delivered to the individual/family.
A list of items that are included in the kits is available at https://www.nourishtogether.org/programs/kitchen-restore. The following gently used or new items are currently needed for our kits: cookie sheets, large and small skillets preferably with lids, cereal/soup bowls, small colanders, spatulas, cooking spoons, whips, medium and small mixing bowls, and large and small pans preferably with lids for cooking on stove top. Donations may be given to Sandy Proctor and Carol Shanklin. If large quantities are being donated, pick up can be arranged.
The Kitchen Restore volunteers appreciate CAUMC allowing us use of the White House to store and pack kits. We feel truly blessed to use the space to pack and provide starter kits to individuals and families in need, so they have the tools needed to prepare meals to feed themselves and their families.
