Actually this post might better be titled “Treasure’s Recognized.” Today David Larimore and I started looking over a table that we had over looked before. The table is currently located in the library and when we noticed the “leaves” at the top of the sides directly underneath the table top, we realized that they matched the chairs that are now behind the pulpit in the sanctuary and the pulpit that is in the main entryway. I’ve always believed that the chairs and the pulpit were original to our current building which was was dedicated in 1908. It that belief is true, the fact that the table matches so closesly would make this table the original altar table.
As if one large (re)discovery wasn’t enough for the day, we then realized that those leaves were on another piece of furniture as well. I’ve never known what to make of the “pedestal” pictured at right. Recognizing the altar table for what it was, and realizing the again perfect match of the “leaves” leads me to believe that this “pedestal” may have been for the orginal baptismal font. The font (pictured at right on top of the pedestal) has a note that it is the “origianal” baptism font. Whether that means original to the 1908 building or original to a previous building I do not know.
