Bertha Lanning has crossed over into the wideness of God’s mercy; I can’t thank her personally even though I desperately want to, so I’ll thank her here instead. Thank you Bert for leaving a bequest to Coffeyville First United Methodist Church, your bequest will help the church continue its mission and ministry.
A Study in Contrasts
Ministry is often a study in contrasts, this morning I visited with a 90+ year old parishioner with terminal cancer and then walked down the hall to meet a newborn parishioner less than 12 hrs old. It’s an honor to be allowed into the many stages of people’s lives.
Christmas Basket Thank You

The following was received from a family that received one of our Christmas baskets:
To the Pastor and Congregation of the First United Methodist Church,
Thank you very much for the great food basket that you provided for through the Salvation Army Christmas drive.
There was so much great food in the basket and we got to keep the basket which always comes in handy.
It makes our hearts warm and our eyes misty to know there are such caring people as you out there.
Thank you again and God bless.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Bradley Family
Jenny and I want to add our thanks to everyone who helped out with the shopping, the packing, and the distribution.
Thanks
A Thank You Note From Holly Morris
Received today from Holly Morris:
Just a note of thanks for the opportunity to work with Rev.’s John and Jenny! Boy did they have to adjust to my wild and zany spirit, I love them for that! They have truly been a blessing to me, along with all the volunteers who have been in and out of the office. You know who you are. The ministry here is amazing and I am so blessed to see God at work here and in our community. May God continue to bless your ministry as you continue to serve Him.
Holly, we enjoyed your wild and zany spirit and the fun and organization you brought to the church office. You will be missed. God bless and keep you.
Great VBS Sunday
We had a great VBS Sunday this morning. Thanks to all the kids who participated in the program and to all the adults who helped throughout the week and with preparations that were made before things even got started. From the children I had the chance to talk with it was clear that this past week made a big, lasting impression on them. On a personal note, I want to thank Jenny for being VBS director. There are a lot of things we can both do, but this is not one of them. Thank You!
Thanks
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who helped with Mary Ingram’s funeral on Saturday. In his book on the theology of Christian funerals, Accompany Them with Singing, speaks of the importance of the funeral service as the work of the whole church and not just professionals (e.g. clergy, musicians, and funeral directors). Those who helped were performing important acts of mission and ministry. Thank you all.
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Enough Stewardship Campaign this past fall. If you did not get a thank you letter for your commitment please let us know. This might have happened for two possible reasons. The first is that Jenny and I made a mistake. The second is that you forgot to put your name on your commitment (about six people did this). If you made a commitment, but didn’t get a letter, please let us know. Again thanks to everyone who participated.
Thanks from the Jubilation Quartet
Thank You
Pack Their Packs Thank You
Thanks to all who supported our ‘Pack Their Pack’ project. Lots of hours and supplies were donated to make this a verysuccessful experience. We provided school supplies to students kindergarten through high school and backpacks to students at Community Elementary. Thank you all! In addition to the school supplies our organization will present the physical education department a check for $500.00 to help purchase tennis shoes, socks, and etc. to be used in P.E. for students.Salvation Army Community Service Volunteers
