The VBS yard signs arrive yesterday. You can stop by the church office and pick one up, or wait until Sunday.
Yard Signs Arrive Today
According to the UPS tracking website the yard signs for this years VBS will arrive at the church today. We’ll start handing them out tomorrow, or you can just wait and pick one up this coming Sunday. For various reasons, I think this is one of the most effective means of advertising not only VBS, but the church as a whole. I’m looking forward to seeing them all around town.

VBS Letter and Registration
In 2009, 74 kids had a great time at Camp E.D.G.E. (Experience & Discover God Everywhere). We’re looking forward to another God centered, educational, and fun-filled week of V.B.S. this Summer on July 12-16, 2010. We’ll be using Cokesbury’s Galactic Blast curriculum. There will be Bible stories, songs, skits, crafts, snacks, recreation, science, and more. The letter to parents, guardians, and grandparents and a registration form are available for download in .pdf format from the downloads page.
Old CDs, CD-ROMs or DVDs Needed for VBS
If you have old CDs, CD-ROMs or DVDs that you do not use and would like to recycle, we would be happy to take them off your hands. We are turning old CDs into picture frames for the kids at VBS. We will spray gold paint over the side with any writing on it, and cut out the child’s photo (taken during VBS) to put in the center of the CD. The children will then get to decorate their photo frames with space themed foam stickers. If you have old CDs you would like to donate, you can drop them off at the church at any time.
VBS 2010 — Galactic Blast
Vacation Bible School 2010 is scheduled for July 12-16, 9 am to noon. Once again this year, we will offer VBS for kids entering grades K-6 in fall 2010. We will also have a nursery for children of VBS volunteers and for children who are a part of Coffeyville First UMC. At Galactic Blast VBS, cadets will gather together for opening and closing assemblies and then will go by classes to the various centers: Bible story, crafts, discovery time, music, recreation, and snacks. This year, we will be continuing our mission project we began earlier this year, by bringing offerings for the “Nothing But Nets” campaign to provide insecticide treated mosquito nets to help prevent the spread of Malaria.
How can you help? If you would like to volunteer to help, there are several opportunities. Prior to VBS, there is the opportunity to help create space-themed decorations, or to let us borrow space themed decorations that you already have. There are also opportunities during the week of VBS to help out as a volunteer in various areas. If you are not able to volunteer your time, but you would like to go beyond your regular giving and contribute financially with a designated offering, you are always welcome to do that. We will again be putting signs for VBS in yards to advertise the event. If you would be willing to have a sign in your yard let us know. Finally, we request your prayers for VBS. We hope and pray that VBS will be a wonderful week where the volunteers and the kids can experience God’s love and learn ways to follow Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
If you would like to volunteer to help with VBS, please contact Pastor Jenny (jenny@revcollins.com) or the church office. Please spread the word about VBS to the children you know.
Galactic Blast (VBS) Planning Meeting
There will be a planning meeting for the 2010 Vacation Bible School (VBS) this coming Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2 pm. This years theme is Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God! VBS is scheduled for the week of July 12-16.
Final VBS Stats
As announced Sunday, the final numbers for VBS: Camp E.D.G.E. were 74 children attending under the supervision of 40 adults and youth. What a great turnout and what a great chance to let children know of the love of God. I think turnout benefited from Dick Foster’s interview with the local radio station, the articles in The Coffeyville Journal, and all the yard signs. Thanks to everyone who pitched in on these efforts.
VBS Winds Down with 53
VBS wound down the week with 53 kids present today. We’re looking forward to the program on Sunday morning and the VeggieTales short movie and cookout in the afternoon. A reminder that everyone is invited to the cookout. Hotdogs, buns, and drinks will be provided, the rest is up to you.
