Save the Date: 2019 VBS
Vacation Bible School will be held June 24-27, 2019 (Monday through Thursday), here at First United Methodist Church. This year’s theme is “To Mars and Beyond.” Kids from Pre-K to 5th grade are welcome to attend from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
VBS Celebration Tomorrow
Tomorrow (Sunday, July 29, 2018), we’ll celebrate the successful completion of Vacation Bible School (VBS) by sharing a video montage of photos. If you want a copy of the video, just bring a thumb drive, and I’ll be happy to make a copy for you. For the sake of brevity during the worship service, I had to leave a lot of photos out, but if you want to see the extended cut with more photographs that’s available also.
Theatre Kids, Boy Scouts, and VBS, Oh My!
We had a great day at Abilene First UMC yesterday. The building was full of kids all day. We started off with Great Plains Theatre Camp in the morning and afternoon and Boy Scouts and Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the evening. I can’t speak for Great Plains Theatre or the Boy Scouts, but VBS is off to a great start! Thanks to everyone who has and is pitching in.
P.S. Just in case it wasn’t obvious, the title of this post is a reference to “Lions and tigers, and bears, oh my!” in the Wizard of Oz.
VBS Starts Today at 6:00
Join us this week for an exciting Vacation Bible School adventure! VBS will be held Monday, July 23, 2018, through Wednesday, July 25, 2018, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Supper will be served. There will be a cookout and pool party on Thursday, July 26, 2018.

For VBS (Vacation Bible School) Volunteers: There will be a training and orientation for VBS volunteers today, Sunday, July 16, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For VBS Attendees and Their Parents: This year our joint VBS (Vacation Bible School) with Trinity Lutheran Church will be held at their place (302 North Cedar) from Monday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 19 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. with supper being served from 6:00-6:30 p.m. On Thursday, July 20, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., there will be a VBS cookout and pool party at Eisenhower Park. VBS is open to kids three years old and up through fifth grade. Registration forms are available in the Church Office
Vacation Bible School 2017
This year our joint VBS (Vacation Bible School) with Trinity Lutheran Church will be held at their place (302 North Cedar) from Monday, July 17 through Thursday, July 20. This will be an evening VBS from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with supper being served from 6:00 to 6:30. VBS is open to kids three years old and up through fifth grade. Both registration forms and a list of items you can donate should be available in the Narthex beginning this Sunday.
VBS Starts Tonight
The beginning of Vacation Bible School is a little less more than an hour away. If you aren’t otherwise participating, I encourage you to stop by and take a peek in the sanctuary. It is something to see. Wendy Robinson and Teresa Hudson (from Trinity ELCA) have outdone themselves.
Vacation Bible School Starts Tonight
A Friendly reminder that Vacation Bible School (VBS) starts tonight (July 20, 2015) at 6 pm. Supper will be served (for children and parents) until 6:30 pm. VBS itself will last until 9 pm Monday through Wednesday, with a pool party from 7:30 to 9 pm at Eisenhower Park on Thursday.
VBS is open to all children in preschool through fifth grade. As in year’s past, we’re partnering with Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and this year it will be held in their building at 320 North Cedar.
Pre-VBS Activities
There will be a VBS work/craft night tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 5:30 pm at Emmanual United Methodist Church. This will be a time to get things set up and decorated for VBS and there will be dinner. Even a half-hour of your time would be appreciated.
Then on Sunday, June 1, 2014 there will be a Crash Course Training at 6 pm for all helpers and volunteers. This time will serve as an orientation and help make sure that everyone knows the plan and location of activities. Some volunteer positions are still available if you haven’t yet signed up.
2014 Vacation Bible School
This summer we will again be partnering with Trinity Lutheran Church and Emmanual United Methodist Church for Vacation Bible School. VBS will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 through Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Emmanual at 1300 N. Vine, Abilene, Kansas from 6 to 9 pm. Children from Pre-K through 5th grade are welcome. You can register online or pick up a form in the church office.

Mark your calendars. The 2014 session of Vacation Bible School has been scheduled for June 2-5 from 6 to 9 pm. We’re once more partnering with Emmanual United Methodist Church and Trinity Luthern. All children will be welcome and volunteers will be needed. The theme this year is “Workshop of Wonders.” More details to follow.
