A Note About the Custodial Staff

Please note that the church’s custodial staff, Bob Whitson and Norma Morgan, serve the church as a whole and are not anyone’s personal servants. Members and friends of First are welcome to ask them for assistance, but do not have the authority to issue commands. This is to ensure that they have an adequate amount of time to perform their prescribed duties. If you make a request and they tell you no when you feel they should have agreed, simply inform Jenny or I and we will reluctantly adjudicate.

If you’re inclined to speculate about what brought this statement on, please know that it happened long ago and even I’m no longer certain.

Sound System Tuned

Gary Jordan came over from Joplin today to adjust our sound system for the acoustic changes brought about by the installation of the new pews. The improvements are dramatic and bring the overall quality of the sound system up to it’s highest level yet.

Sheetrock Stage Curtain Pictures

The work being done on the stage in the Fellowship Hall was explained in a previous post. I think this will really come in handy during VBS and the larger projection screen will give Kid’s Night Out and VeggieTales movie events more punch.

A Stage Curtain Made of Sheetrock

You might have noticed that the curtain was removed from the stage in the Fellowship Hall a while back. Dave Larimore has begun the replacement process. Because of the high cost of custom made curtains of that size, the trustees decided to substitute a series of walls instead. This method has the advantage not only of a lower cost, but also of being able to hold a projection screen (we happen to have an extra one).

Parlor Repairs — Snapshots

Some long delayed repairs to the parlor began yesterday. You may remember that in January 2010 we had some pipes freeze and water damage in the parlor resulted. As the parlor was used as a staging area for the pews, repairs were delayed, now that the pews are in, repairs have begun. If you’re on a smartphone visit this page.

Sanctuary Pews Near Completion

All the pew cushions from Alderman Acres have been delivered. With the exception of a few envelope holders and under the seat book racks that have yet to be delivered the project is complete.

Update —Pews are Still in Process

Alderman Acres brought by seven pew cushions this morning and Dave Larimore spent the week putting on trim and so the pews in the sanctuary are getting close to completion. But they’re not done yet. The remainder of the pew cushions are still being manufactured and Dave is waiting on more trim, more envelope holders, and the under seat book racks for the front pews.

Update: more pew cushions have been delivered, but more are in the works.

Work on the Roof Begins Tomorrow

A shipment of roofing supplies arrived today. Work on the roof of the education addition will begin tomorrow. Thanks to the fact that our insurance policy provides full replacement coverage we’re responsible for only $1,000 (the amount of our deductible) of the $107,379 replacement cost. The metal roof over the main building (including the sanctuary) is not in need of repair despite the recent hail storms.
