The church office is closed today in observance of President’s Day.
We're on iTunes
I just got a confirmation from Apple that our podcast has been approved for posting on the iTunes store. There is no charge for us to post the podcast and no charge to you to download sermons. If you use iTunes, you can visit our page (and subscribe to podcasts of sermons) by following this link: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=305478487.
iTunes is available as a free download at: http://www.apple.com/itunes/.
Sermon CD Feedback
So far, all the feedback we have received about the sermons on CD (and online) has been positive. The quality of the recording is much better than it was with our previous system and we’re working on the technical and legal aspects of including more of the service with the sermon (some anthems, introits, preludes, postludes, and hymns are under copyright). While this program was initially impelemented for shut-ins, copies of the sermon on CD are available for free to anyone who might have missed a sermon, wants to keep a copy of a favorite sermon, or just wants one for any reason. If you have internet access (and if you’re reading this that would seem to be a very good possibility) you also have the option of downloading them from the podcasts page of the church website. You are our quality control team so let us know if there are any problems.
New (and Hopefully Permanent) RSS Feed
We’ve been having some problems with the RSS feed for blog readers (If you don’t know what that means, consider yourself blessed and ignore this post). If you subscribe to this site you’ll want to make sure you’re reader is pointed to http://www.revcollins.com/feed in order to continue to receive updates..
Council on Finance and Administration
Yesterday I attended my first meeting of the Kanas East Conference Council on Finance and Administration (a.k.a. CFA). CFA funcions like the finance committee in a local church. I was elected secretary (the above picture is from the conference website, but it is not an accurate depiction of my mood). I think serving on this board in this capacity will be an excellent opportunity to learn and to advocate for Coffeyville First and churches in similar situations.
Again, Nothing to See Here
I should clarify that if you’re just reading the blog online through your brower (the usual way to look at things on the web) none of this talk about feed and RSS affects you at all. As one of our friends might say, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Nothing to See Here
I recently changed the permalink structure of this blog and in the process the address of the RSS feed changed, meaning trouble for everyone who subscribes to this blog. I’m think I’ve found a solution and this post should let me know.
Update: Well, that didn’t work.
Sunday's Sermon
This coming Sunday, February 15, 2009, I’ll be picking up our peculiar treasures theme, preaching on 2 Kings 5.1-14 and talking about Naaman and Elisha. Or at least that’s the plan for the moment.
*To the right is the new pulpit for the sanctuary, made by Tracy and Iris Alban.
Cross Posting
Some of the posts on this blog are (and will be) cross posted to http://www.coffeyvillefirstumc.org. Everything there can be found here, but not everything here can be found there.
Finance Committee Meeting

The Finance Committee has scheduled their next meeting for February 16, 2009. The committee will be finalizing the budget which then has to be approved by the Church Council.
Taizé Service Tonight

I almost forgot to put up the reminder that there is Taizé service tonight at 7:15 pm.
Movie Event: Jonah

A VeggieTales MOVIE EVENT is planned for 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 15, 2009. We’ll be watching Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. Big Idea provides the following description:
Get ready as Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and the rest of the Veggie gang set sail on a whale of an adventure in Jonah, Big Idea’s first full-length, 3-D animated, feature film. Filled with music, laughs and some of the silliest adventures ever to be swallowed whole, this is the story of Jonah and the whale as you’ve never seen it before — a story where everyone learns that one of the best gifts you can give — or get — is a second chance.
This is a great movie, and as usual, we’ll have theater style popcorn and drinks, pages to color, vertical golf, and more.
