Music Notes

Received from Clark Williamson:

Music selections will take on all sorts of styles, flavor, and spirit during Holy Week and beyond.  Angie Hoerner will accompany me in a vocal solo entitled “Be Not Afraid” for services on Palm/Passion Sunday.  The piece was originally scored for 4 parts and our choir has sung it a couple times before.  The lyrics are a paraphrase from Isaiah 43:1-7.

Also on that morning our Chancel Choir will sing the Passion anthem “So in Love He Came” with music based on a classical work for string orchestra by Norway’s famous composer, Edvard Grieg.  Later in Holy Week the choir will sing “How Beautiful” by contemporary praise writer Twila Paris for the Maundy Thursday worship.  Then come Easter Sunday there will be a variety of musical expressions to celebrate the Risen Christ.  A brass trio will accompany the processional.  Our Generations of Praise band leads the congregation in a traditional song but played in a contemporary style.  Piano and organ selections will be heard.  The Chancel Choir will sing “See the Stone is Rolled Away” and return again at the conclusion of the worship for the seasonal favorite- Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”.  Volunteers from the congregation will join them.
