We’re again collecting food for the Bishop’s Round-Up for Hunger. As in recent past years, everything we collect will be dispersed locally through our own food pantry. As long as we keep track of what we collect, items dispersed locally can be counted as contributions to the Round-Up. While the items we hand out from the food pantry vary from person to person and sack to sack we try to insure that everyone receives the following items: green beans, corn, peas, fruit, soup, pork and beans, tuna, jello, rice, dry beans, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, crackers, paper towels, cereal, and spaghetti. (Thanks to the congregation’s generosity, we’re currently well stocked with soap and shampoo). Cash donations are always appreciated as they are used to fill in any gaps in our shelves.
Still Another Door Found
I found one more door to be refinished when I was showing the HVAC tech where the furnace was in the youth room. That brings us to a total, I believe, of 86 doors. At the moment John Taggart, a.k.a. John the Painter, is finishing doors for the platform lift.
Great Thanksgiving Dinner
The yearly great thanksgiving dinner is coming up November 22, 2009 after the second worship service. This great meal is not a potluck but is instead catered by Chuck McFate. We’ll be taking reservations for the next two Sundays. Let us know if you can join us for worship and the great thanksgiving meal that follows on the 22nd, but won’t be present to make reservations in the next two weeks.

VeggieTales Movie Event
Just a friendly reminder that our next Movie Event will be held Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 4:00 pm. We’ll be in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church watching the animated feature We’ll be watching Dave and the Giant Pickle. Big Idea provides the following description on the back of the DVD case:
In this hilarious retelling of the classic Bible story of David and Goliath, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber help kids learn that it makes no difference whether you’re nine feet tall or two feet tall. With God’s help, even little guys can do big things.
This show is one of my all time favorites. In large part because of the “Silly Song,” I Love My Lips.
As always, we’ll have theater style popcorn and drinks, pages to color, and more. You’re encouraged to bring camp chairs, sleeping bags, etc. to make yourselves comfortable. You’re also more than welcome to bring friends and invite others to join us. We look forward to seeing you November 8.
234 Toothbrushes Given Out
We gave out 234 toothbrushes last Saturday (October 31, 2009) at Trunk-or-Treat.
Upcoming Meetings
The Church Council met tonight at 5:15 pm. That leaves three meetings for the remainder of the week. They are as follows:
- Tuesday at 5:15 pm — Lay Leadership Committee
- Wednesday at 5:15 pm — Trustees
- Thursday at 5:15 pm — Pastor Parish Relations
Gladys Ayres Funeral Service
A Service of Death and Resurrection (the official name of the standard funeral service) will be held for Gladys Ayres tomorrow at 10 am in the chapel.
