Final Due Date for Disaster Buckets

Yesterday morning we blessed two flood buckets (the two were meant to represent all of them, although I apparently didn’t make this completely clear). But it’s still not too late to bring yours in. The buckets will be taken to the Great Plains Annual Conference in Topeka. Annual Conference runs from May 31 to June 4, so the final due date to get your bucket into the church office is May 30, 2016.

Carpet Challenge

In order to help raise funds for new carpet and tile, Dr. Brian Holmes wants to challenge everyone who hasn’t already given to the Flooring Fund to match his gift of $500. You can respond to this challenge by making an offering labeled “Flooring Fund” or sending a check to the church office at 601 N Cedar ST. We’ll let Brian know that you met his challenge.

Baptism is Thicker Than Water

Dan Dick’s most recent post is titled “Baptism is Thicker Than Water.” It begins thus:

At what point should The United Methodist Church admit its failures and simply split over the issues of human sexuality raised by LGBTQI people and those in the church unwilling or unable to accept them?  For me, the answer is simple — at the point that we admit that we do not believe God has the power to unite, reconcile and heal.  To stay together is an act of faith.  To separate is to reject God, renounce Jesus, and revoke our baptism.

I would encourage you to head over to his blog, United Methodeviations, and read the whole thing.
