My sermon from Palm/Passion Sunday is now online at soundcloud.com. The gospel text was Mark 15.1-39. It was a sermon in which I discussed the shortcomings of a popular metaphor for understanding what Christ did on the cross.

We’ll be doing our 2nd Annual community “Cross Walk” in observance of Good Friday today. We’ll start at First Baptist Church, proceed to First Christian Church, and then finish up at First United Methodist Church. We’ll start at 5:30 and should be done by 6:30 (probably earlier, we don’t have to walk as far this year).
At each church we’ll have a responsive reading from the prophet Isaiah and a reading from the gospel of Mark. At the very end their will be a brief period of silent meditation. This will be a very different kind of event from last night’s Holy Thursday service.
A special thanks to everyone who read scripture tonight at the Holy Thursday Tenebrae Service. You all did well and we discovered some new readers. To everyone who attended, let us know if you have any suggestions about how we can improve the service for next year.
Over at fatherjeremy.com, Jeremy Lucas, an Episcopal Priest in Oregon, has posted five rules to follow when one encounters visitors or irregular attenders at worship on Easter Morning. I am ashamed to admit that I once violated rule number two.
