Over 389 packs were prepared by volunteers from the Salvation Army Community Service Volunteers and First United Methodist Church. Additional supplies were provided for Jr. High and High School students bringing the total number of students provided with supplies to 519. As of last Sunday we had collected $466.90 as a church. We’ll again have special offering envelopes next week in order to get a head start on next year and provide one more opportunity for anyone who hasn’t yet had a chance to donate. Thanks to everyone who contributed and to Jody Hamby and Jo Locke for spearheading this effort.

Please be sure to complete your name and contact information on the other side. We can’t accept anonymous additions or corrections because we don’t have anyone to contact if we have questions.
Sunday's Coming
Tomorrow I’ll be preaching on Philippians 3.7-14, 1 Corinthians 12.12-26, and Matthew 12.46.50. We’ll be celebrating Holy Communion and the Baptism (in the 10:50 service) of Atlantis Frank. We’ll be singing We Are the Church, I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry, and Amazing Grace. Members and friends are encouraged to wear western wear (or just jeans) for Fair and Rodeo Sunday.

Air Conditioned Parade Watching
According to their website, the Inter-State Rodeo Parade will take place in downtown Coffeyville on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 4 pm. The parade processes right by the front of the church and we’ll have the lobby at a comfortable, if not cool, setting. This is good for young ones and anyone else whose health means that they can’t tolerate the heat. It’s also good for anyone who just doesn’t like the heat (like me).
Fair and Rodeo Sunday
At the suggestion of Nancy Wright, we’re inviting folks to observe the Interstate Fair and Rodeo by donning western wear this coming Sunday, August 7, 2011. Don’t worry if you don’t have western wear, I don’t either. I’m planning on making do with jeans and a button down shirt.

Work on the Roof Begins Tomorrow
A shipment of roofing supplies arrived today. Work on the roof of the education addition will begin tomorrow. Thanks to the fact that our insurance policy provides full replacement coverage we’re responsible for only $1,000 (the amount of our deductible) of the $107,379 replacement cost. The metal roof over the main building (including the sanctuary) is not in need of repair despite the recent hail storms.
