An individual can march for peace or vote for peace and can have, perhaps, some small influence on global concerns. But the same individual is a giant in the eyes of a child at home. If peace is to be built, it must start with the individual. It is built brick by brick.

Hat Tip: Sojourners

This Sunday we presented Bibles to 3rd and 4th graders. It seemed like an appropriate time to sing I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry. It’s never explicitly mentioned in the lyrics, but the “I” of this song refers to God who is was there to hear our first cry out of the womb and will be there when we pass from this life into the next “with just one more surprise.”
This post is about a week overdue, but the Public Wi-Fi network with internet access at the church is back online. If you’re looking for it the name is “United Methodist Guest.” We encourage members and guests to take full advantage of this service, but because we are a church, some individual sites and certain kinds of sites are blocked.
This is not directly church related, but when I drove into work today, I was amazed at how clean the streets were. The city crews have done a fantastic job. Thank you City of Coffeyville Employees!
USD 445 has cancelled classes for today (Wednesday, February 9, 2011) and so the church office will also be closed. Jenny and I will be available via our cell phones. We’ll let you know of any other cancellations.
We’re trying out a new plugin to make this blog more easily readable on mobile devices. If you’re reading this blog on a regular computer it shouldn’t appear any different than it did at the beginning of the day. If you’re reading on a mobile device and you prefer it the way it looked before simply scroll down to the bottom of the page slide the switch under “Mobile Theme” to off. Thanks to Eric and Mary Kai Brandenburg, Julie Thompson, and Tony Wood for being beta testers. I would welcome any feedback that anyone else wants to offer.
Tonight’s book study on Doing Justice in a Purple Congregation has been postponed. We’ll have a special double feature to finish up the book next week on Tuesday at 5:15 pm.
We’ll be presenting Bibles to 3rd and 4th grade students next Sunday at the 10:50 worship service. Many of you have already signed as members and friends of First UMC. If the clipboard didn’t make it to you, or if you missed worship this Sunday, it’ll be available all week in the church office.
