Journal Article for Friday
The following article has been submitted to the Coffeyville Journal for publication on Friday. Thanks to Nancy Wright for putting it together.
“Lessons from the Wee Little Man” is the sermon this Sunday for the congregation at First United Methodist Church, 10th & Elm. Services are 8:10 a.m. in the chapel and 10:50 a.m. in the sanctuary. A coffee fellowship time is at 9:30 a.m. preceding the Sunday school time.
The Rev. Jenny Collins will bring the sermon using the scriptures Luke 19.1-10. Mike Mason and Judy Hiner will assist with the scripture readings.
The second service will feature the choir anthem “Give Me Jesus” directed by Nikki Kirk. Sunday’s introit will be the beautiful “He Has Surely Borne Our Sorrow.” Henry Millen is organist. Carla Herring plays piano for the 8:10 service.
The chapel is located on the ground floor. An elevator for those wishing to use it to enter the sanctuary is convenient to the lower 10th street doors.
In celebration of the Halloween holiday, church members will open their car trunks to treat Coffeyville children with the annual “Trunk or Treat” 5:30-7:30 p.m. on October 31 at the church. In addition to the traditional candy, members will share toothbrushes, hot dogs, juice boxes and popcorn with children.
The weekly church calendar also includes the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Monday in the Fellowship Hall. A host of activities are planned for Wednesday. The United Methodist Women meet at the church at 1:30 p.m., the trustees meet at 5:15 p.m. and choir practice begins at 6:30 p.m.
If you are visiting or looking for a church home, Coffeyville First Methodist members welcome you to worship with them. For additional information on First United Methodist Church visit the church website http://www.coffeyvillefirstumc.org.

Theater Seats for Sale
As we get closer to installing pews in the sanctuary, the trustees have made the decision to sell the existing theater seats for $50 each. The plan is to drop the price at intervals, but we’re starting at $50 so that people who are willing to pay more for particular seats will have first choice. At the current time we’re limiting the sale to members, but we plan to eventually expand it to the general public. A few other details: 1. We’ll only sell multiple seats in a consecutive manner (e.g. we’ll only sell three seats that are right next to each other, not one from each section). 2. You’ll need to make your own arrangements to pick them up. 3. You’ll need to wait to pick them up until the pews have been installed, but you’ll need to pick them up relatively quickly after that.

We’re happy to announce that Tyler Thompson’s baptism has been scheduled for November 7, 2 the 10:50 service

It was a joy to have Denise Tatman officially rejoin our congregation yesterday at the 8:10 service. Please welcome these new members to the congregation when you get a chance.
