Children's Choir Update

Received from Nikki Kirk, our choir (and now children’s choir) director:

Thank you everyone for bringing your children to the last music rehearsal.  We had a lot of fun singing and creating our own dance moves to the song I Will Remember You!  We will be rehearsing again this Sunday morning, September 25th as part of the children’s Sunday School time which begins at 9:30 a.m.

Our first performance will be on Sunday, October 2nd during the second service at 10:50 a.m.  We will have our final “dress rehearsal” that morning during Children’s Sunday School also.

Thank you again for allowing your child to participate.  We’ll see you on Sunday!

Music Opportunities at First UMC

This fall we are starting an exciting new ministry in the life of First UMC. Nikki Kirk, choir director, VBS music director, and music teacher at Community Elementary School, will be working with children in our congregation to provide occasional Children’s Special Music during the 10:50 am worship service. If you know of a child who would be interested in this music ministry, please let Nikki Kirk or Pastor Jenny know, if you haven’t already.

On Dec. 4, we are planning on having one combined worship service at 10:50 am for our Christmas program. The choir, along with our children and youth, will be providing special music for the day. If you regularly attend the 8:10 am service but would like to be a part of the choir for this special Christmas program, we’d love to have you join us. Please see Nikki Kirk, choir director, or Pastor Jenny for more information.

Choir Practice Resumes

Choir practice will begin again on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the choir room. Our first Sunday to sing in worship will be Sunday, July 31. We will not be singing on July 24 because that is VBS Sunday and we will have a lot of special music that day. This will give us two practices before we resume singing in worship.

PPRC Approves Maternity Leave

The Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (PPRC) met this evening at 5:15. The most significant action taken was the approval of six weeks of paid maternity leave for our choir director, Nikki Kirk. We’ll miss Nikki but we celebrate with her and Jeremy as they prepare for the birth of the first child. I’m also happy that the church took this opportunity to be pro-family not only in word but also in deed.
