The Gospel reading for this coming Sunday (October 3, 2021) is Mark 10:2-16. It contains one of our favorite sayings of Jesus, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs” (NRSV). But it also contains some of Jesus’ most challenging words: those concerning divorce. I have no personal experience with divorce. Therefore, it seems like a good idea for me to heed the experiences of those of you who do. If you, your parents, or your children went through a divorce, I’m eager to learn from your experience. You can call, text, or email: 620-252-9622 and firstname.lastname@example.org.
An additional bit of information: I have seen cases where I have advised a couple that I think divorce is their least bad option available. I have also presided at weddings for divorced people. Part of what I’ll be doing is explaining how I square my actions with what Jesus said.
