The following was received from Clark Williamson and has been lightly edited:
All persons interested in the music ministries of our church will have an opportunity to register for different choirs on Sunday, August 31 and September 7, 2014. You’ll find a table in the narthex in between services where music director Clark Williamson can answer questions and offer suggestions for participating in the church’s music groups. Both new prospects and current choir members need to fill out a short form. Choir Sign-Up Days applies not only to Chancel Choir and John Wesley Bell Choir but also ways to provide special music in the form of vocal and instrumental solos, duets throughout the year.
Our Chancel Choir is not an auditioned music ensemble. All individuals are welcome no matter how much music background they have. First United Methodist Church is one of the few congregations which still have an ongoing choir to sing each week at worship.
The Chancel Choir is directed by Clark and accompanied by Angie Hoerner. The group will have their first practice on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 7 pm downstairs in Wright Hall. The John Wesley Bell Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 6 pm in the sanctuary, beginning August 28, 2014. The ability to read music is very helpful in this ensemble. We are constantly in need of substitutes at weekly practices and performances each month.
Clark Williamson also coordinates volunteers who assist in the balcony showing worship slides and running the sound system. He will take names on the sign-up days for those individuals as well.
