I want to thank all the volunteers who helped with the funeral yesterday. You did a great deal to comfort the family by making sure things went smoothly. You did a great deal to help me and you made me proud to be part of First United Methodist Church. I also want to thank you for recognizing my attempts at levity for what they were, coping mechanisms for a time of such profound grief. There are times when my only alternatives are to laugh and keep doing my job (and grieve when my work is done) or weep, break down, and be unable to move forward. Together we got through it and we were able to be there for the family. Thanks also to all of you who couldn’t be there but lifted us up in prayer. We would not have been able to do it without God’s help. Thank you.
