District Superintendent Installation

Jenny, Liz and I went over to Parsons for the installation of District Superintendent Kibum Kim today. We had to leave early to get back for the book study on Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White, but before we left we got to hear Kibum’s remarks. One of the stories really stood out for me above all the others. He was speaking of how we often don’t see the full effects of the good we are doing. He referenced the Methodist Missionary who took Christianity to Korea (as did Hyeayoun Kim when she spoke here at Coffeyville First UMC). But then he also took time to pay tribute to the American soldiers who fought in the Korean conflict and credited them with providing South Koreans with the freedom to worship, and by extension the proliferation of Christians and churches there. I had never thought about it that way before, but now that it’s been brought to my attention I can see it as a great good effect that those fighting at the time didn’t even realize they were fighting for.
