I’m thankful for the recent unanimous supreme court ruling, but I agree with the statement: “However, the ruling also puts more responsibility on The United Methodist Church to prevent discrimination and do justice in its hiring practices, say denominational leaders.” In my mind it’s analogous to the way I think about the Americans with Disabilities Act: as a church we’re not bound by it, but it is still an excellent source for guidelines on how to make our building accessible to all people.
